Jesse is first and foremost a songwriter and producer, and occasionally does rare live appearances. In Columbus, Ohio, Jesse bought a 100 year-old stone farmhouse and renovated it into his custom-built recording studio. The neighborhood around the studio was affectionately referred to as SO-HUD (South of Hudson) by the various musicians and beatnik hipsters who were there to take advantage of the cheap housing and creative atmosphere. Over the years, the SoHud has really established itself as a magical musical place. Jesse manages a bustling video and music studio called Sohud Studio and a record label called Sohud Sounds. Jesse writes and records genre fluid music from funk to folk with his friends known as "The Midnight Stars". He preforms regularly all over the US either solo, or with other "Midnight Stars".

Jesse Michael Barr & The Midnight Stars plays timeless music for timeless souls. This band combines all the best elements of funk, folk, and reggae into a trilling live experience. Jesse writes, records, and produces all the songs, and then collaborates with fine young musicians to bring these songs to life on stage. The songs sound reminiscent of John Lennon or Jack Johnson with a greater emphasis on rhythm. This band will inspire you to dance. This band will inspire you to think. This band will make you feel an intimate twinge for classic love songs. Jesse makes his home base in Columbus, Ohio, but gathers influences from his travels. As part of the live show, Jesse plays songs from his three solo albums including "Around the World", and maybe something from the Paul Simon catalogue. When not with The Midnight Stars he can be seen performing with "The Floorwalkers".
